SAFETY PROTOCOLS

Required Protective Gear

Batting Helmets: Must feature a NOCSAE-approved face mask or guard . Players must wear them while batting, base running, and on-deck.

Infield Face Masks: Mandated for younger players and Highly recommended for third basemen, first basemen, and pitchers to protect against high-velocity line drives. If you feel unsafe, please protect your face.

Catcher's Equipment: Must include a helmet, full chest protector, and shin guards 

Footwear: Cleats or Turfs must be worn for traction to prevent slipping. 

Weather and Physical Health

Hydration Breaks: Establish mandatory water breaks every 20 to 30 minutes, especially during humid summer tournaments.

Lightning Policy: Adhere to the "30-30 rule." Clear the field immediately if thunder is heard within 30 seconds of a lightning flash, and do not resume play until 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder.

Warm-Ups: Dedicate at least 10 minutes to dynamic stretching and progressive throwing routines to prevent shoulder and elbow strains. 

Concussion and Injury Response

Immediate Removal: If a player experiences a collision (e.g., a tag play at home plate or an outfield outfield collision) and shows signs of a concussion, they must be removed from play immediately.

Medical Clearance: The athlete cannot return to the field until they receive written clearance from a licensed healthcare professional.

Code of Conduct and Abuse Prevention

Prevent abuse: Use the "Rule of Two." This means two adults should always be present with a child. It keeps coaches from being alone with one kid. 

Report concerns: If there are any concerns, please talk with your coach, director or owner of Florida Select to get it resolved immediately.
